…The border area between England and Scotland, a vast region stretching 160 km from the Solway Firth in the west to where the River Tweed flows into the North Sea in the east. It is also simply called the Border. From the 11th to the 15th century, the two countries repeatedly invaded each other and fought fierce wars. In this region, where beautiful hills, rivers, lakes, valleys, ruins of churches and castles remain, tragedies and comedies related to battles have been passed down in many ballads and other poems. Among them, W. Scott's "Minute of the Scottish Frontier" (1802-03), which added his own poems to these oral ballads, is famous. …
