Coins minted and circulated from 1736 (Genbun 1) during the Edo period. Also known as Shin-moji gold and silver. These were recoined coins (such as koban and chogin) of lower quality to replace the Shotoku and Kyoho gold and silver coins. Their fineness was midway between the Shotoku and Genroku gold and silver coins, and they helped increase government revenues through deme (profits from recoinage), adjust prices, and revive the stagnant economy, remaining in circulation for over 80 years. → Related article Ooka Tadasuke Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
