A Mongolian nomadic tribe that occupied the Orkhon River and Tuul River basins in Outer Mongolia from the 11th century to the beginning of the 13th century. In Chinese characters, it is written as ケ麗. Influenced by the Turkish culture to the west, its ruling class was a follower of Nestorian Christianity. In the second half of the 12th century, its king Toghrul called himself Wan Khan, and was attacked by Genghis Khan, who had risen to power at that time. He was killed in 1203, and the Kerait Kingdom was destroyed, and the Kerait people became subordinate to the Mongol Empire.
