American politician. Born September 21st in New York City. Graduated from both Yale and Harvard. After working as a lawyer and federal prosecutor, he served as Secretary of War in the Taft administration (1911-13), Governor General of the Philippines (1927-29), Secretary of State in the Hoover administration (1929-33), and Secretary of War in the F. D. Roosevelt and Truman administrations (1940-45). During this time, he announced the Stimson Doctrine in 1932, advocated a hard-line policy against Japan even before the outbreak of the Pacific War, and oversaw the atomic bomb development project (Manhattan Project).
