Also called a side road or side street. In the Edo period, a side road was a branch road to the Five Highways and the roads that were attached to them (Main Highways) that were under the jurisdiction of the Road Magistrate. The main side roads were extensions or branches of the Five Highways. The main ones were the Iseji Route, which runs from Yokkaichi on the Tokaido to Ise Naigu, the Hime Kaido, which bypasses the northern shore of Lake Hamana without crossing Imakiriwatashi, the Chugoku Route, which runs from Osaka to Kokura in Buzen, the Sado Route, the Hokkoku Route, the Ushu Kaido, and the Mikuni Kaido. The Nikko Reiheishi Kaido was also a side road. →Roads→Related topics Iga Kaido | Okubo Nagayasu | Nagasaki Route | Honjin | Mino Route Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
