Itakeru no Kami - Itakeru no Kami

Japanese:
Itakeru no Kami - Itakeru no Kami
A god who appears in one of the volumes of the Nihon Shoki (a separate version), he is the son of Susanoo-no-Mikoto. He is said to have been enshrined in Kii Province. He does not appear in the main text of the Nihon Shoki or the Kojiki. Apart from being a heroic god who defeated the Yamata no Orochi, Susanoo also has an aspect as a god who created trees, which is thought to be closer to the original form. Isotake-no-Mikoto appears in the legends as a god of trees. He accompanied Susanoo, who was chased out of Takamagahara, to Silla, suggesting the depth of his relationship with Susanoo. As for his achievements, he is praised as a god who spread tree seeds throughout the Japanese archipelago. He is currently enshrined at Itakiso Shrine in Wakayama City as a god of reforestation. <References> Kanda Norishiro, "The True Form of the Susanoo Myth" (Japanese Studies: Language and Tradition, edited by the Publication Committee for the Collection of Essays Commemorating the Seventieth Birthday of Professor Ohno Susumu)
