Oncidium

A genus of the orchid family (APG classification: Orchidaceae). There are many types of epiphytic orchids native to the tropics of Central and South America. Only golden-colored Ampulaceum and Splendidum are available on the market, but new cultivars appear every year, and in recent years, Nona, Star Wars, Florida Gold, McAlary, and Saltamayya are popular. All of them have large yellow flowers, and recent cultivars are characterized by their ability to be used as cut flowers or potted plants. There are many cultivars, and some bloom almost all year round, but spring blooms are somewhat rare. The growing season is from spring to autumn, and flower buds are likely to form if fertilized, exposed to sunlight, and watered abundantly during this period. It is best to plant or divide in spring, and plant in sphagnum moss. It can survive winter at 10°C, but 15°C is required to bloom in winter.

ラン科（APG分類：ラン科）の1属名。中央アメリカから南アメリカの熱帯原産の着生ランで、多くの種類がある。原種では黄金(こがね)色のアンプラセウムや、スプレンディダムが市場に出回るくらいであるが、園芸種は毎年新品種が登場し、近年、ノナ、スターウォーズ、フロリダゴールド、マカリー、サルタマイヤーなどがよくつくられている。いずれも黄色の大輪で、切り花にも鉢花にもなるのが最近の園芸種の特徴となっている。園芸種は多数あり、ほぼ一年中どれかが開花しているが、春咲きがやや少ない。生育期は春から秋までで、この間に肥培をし日光に当て、水を多く与えると花芽ができやすい。植え付け、株分けは春がよく、ミズゴケで植える。10℃あれば冬を越せるが、冬に開花させるには15℃は必要である。
