Kennedy Round (of multinational trade negotiations)

The name given to the sixth round of general tariff negotiations organized by GATT. Negotiations took place over three years, from May 1964 to June 1967, mainly in Geneva, and were concluded with the signing of a treaty by 48 participating countries. Compared to the five previous rounds of general tariff negotiations, this round was far larger in every respect, including the length of time, the number of participating countries, and the areas of negotiation. It is commonly called the Kennedy Round because U.S. President Kennedy proposed the negotiations in 1962 and passed the Trade Expansion Act, which forms the basis of the negotiations.

GATT（ガツト）が主催した第6回一般関税交渉の通称。1964年5月から67年6月まで3年にわたりジュネーブを中心に交渉が行われ，参加48ヵ国の調印で成立した。それ以前に行われた5回の一般関税交渉に比べ，交渉時間，参加国数，交渉の分野など，あらゆる面でけた違いに大規模であった。アメリカのケネディ大統領が1962年に交渉を提唱し，交渉の基礎となる通商拡大法を成立させたので，一般に〈ケネディ･ラウンド〉と呼ばれる。
