An extinct volcano located in central Kenya, East Africa, directly on the equator. At 5,199m above sea level, it is the second highest mountain in Africa. The area above 3,300m is a national park. There is a glacier from the summit to 4,300m. The starting point for climbing is Nanyuki in the northwest. HJ Mackinder was the first to reach the summit in 1899.
