Also called cummingtonite. A type of amphibole, it is a mineral with the chemical composition (Mg,Fe ²⁺ ) ₇ Si ₈ O ₂₂ (OH) _2. It usually refers to a mineral with an Fe ²⁺ /(Mg + Fe ²⁺ ) ratio of 0.3 to 0.69, with those with a ratio of 0.7 or more called grunerite (also called iron ore) and those with a ratio of 0.29 or less called magnesium cummingtonite. It often contains small amounts of Ca, Mn, Al, etc.

カミングトン角セン石ともいう。角セン石の一つで，化学組成は(Mg,Fe^2＋)₇Si₈O₂₂(OH)₂と表される鉱物。ふつうFe^2＋/(Mg＋Fe^2＋)の比が0.3～0.69のものをいい，0.7以上はグリューネセン石grunerite(鉄セン石ともいう)，0.29以下はマグネシウムカミングトンセン石magnesiocummingtoniteと区別して呼ばれる。少量のCa,Mn,Alなどを含む場合が多い。
