Kenji Ogura

For example, in Japan, Tamoto Kenzo (1831-1912) and others took photos of the systematic record of Hokkaido's development during the Meiji period, and today these photos are recognized as valuable documents of the era, with a value that goes beyond the photographer's intentions. In addition, the publication of The True Story of the Sino-Japanese War (1894) was also seen, which was taken by Ogura Kenji, a member of the Army Survey Department, and others who accompanied the war. Looking at examples from overseas, in 1855, the British photographer Roger Fenton (1819-69) became the world's first war photographer and took photographs of the Crimean War, and woodblock prints based on these photographs were published in newspapers.
