Kety (English spelling)

Japanese: ケート族 - ケートぞく（英語表記）Kety

Indigenous people of the middle and lower reaches of the Yenisei River in Western Siberia, Russia. Formerly known as the Yenisei Ostyaks or the Yenisei people. During the Soviet era, they engaged in various agricultural and livestock farming activities in collective farms, and spoke both Ket and Russian. Population: 1,100 (1989). Ket is one of the now extinct Yenisei languages, and is treated as an isolated language in linguistic classification due to its linguistic peculiarities. In the past, as is common among hunter-gatherers, they moved between summer and winter. In summer, they lived in cone-shaped tents made of birch bark by the river, caught fish and wild birds, gathered nuts, and made preserved food for winter. In autumn, they went up the river, built pit dwellings for winter, and lived a hunting life in winter.

ロシア連邦，西シベリアのエニセイ川中･下流域の先住民で，かつてはエニセイ･オスチャークまたはエニセイ族と呼ばれた。ソ連時代にはコルホーズで各種の農牧業に携わり，ケート語とロシア語を用いている。人口1100(1989)。ケート語は今日では消滅してしまったエニセイ諸語の一つで，言語学的な特異性のゆえに言語分類上は孤立した言語として扱われている。かつては狩猟民の常として夏冬で居住地を移動した。夏には川辺で白樺樹皮の円錐形天幕を住居とし，魚や野鳥を捕獲し，木の実を採集し，冬に備えて保存食を作り，秋には川をさかのぼり，冬用の竪穴住居を設け，冬季は狩猟生活を送った。
