Kanzawa Tokou

Japanese: 神沢杜口 - かんざわとこう

1710-1795 A haiku poet and essayist from the mid-Edo period.
Born in 1766. A deputy at the Kyoto Magistrate's Office. He learned haiku from Tsumegi Banzan and Matsuki Tandan. He retired from his post after turning 40 and spent the rest of his life writing essays and other writing activities. He passed away on February 11, 1792 (according to one theory, March 27). He was 86 years old. His real surname was Irie. His given name was Sadamichi. He was commonly known as Yohei. His other pen names were Kakasai and Kicho. His works include "Okinagusa" and his edited work "Futari Tsure".

宝永7年生まれ。京都町奉行所の与力。俳諧(はいかい)を爪木晩山,松木淡々にまなぶ。40歳をすぎて職を辞し,随筆などの著述活動に余生をおくった。寛政7年2月11日(一説に3月27日)死去。86歳。本姓は入江。名は貞幹。通称は与兵衛。別号に可々斎,其蜩(きちょう)。著作に「翁草」,編著に「ふたりつれ」など。
