〘Noun〙 Buddhist term. An initiation ceremony given to enable ordinary people to form a connection with Buddhism. The initiation ceremony instructor, an ajari , leads the recipient to the initiation platform, has the various deities throw flowers, and designates the Buddha on whose ground the flower falls as the main deity with which the initiation ceremony is connected. He chants the name of that Buddha, pours a jar of water on the recipient 's head, and bestows one seal and one understanding . →Initiation ceremony②. [Season: Winter] *Genpei Jōsuiki (before the 14th century) 8 "As explained in this sutra, there are three types of initiation.
