Born: March 15, 1875 in Blé-sur-Seine [Died] July 23, 1944. Paris. French playwright and poet. His real name was Henri Léon Vangeon. He was one of the founders of the magazine NRF. He made his theatrical debut with the tragedy Pain (1911) and participated in the Théâtre de Vieux-Colombier in Copeau. He converted to Catholicism while serving as a military doctor in World War I, and thereafter worked to revive popular religious drama through works based on Christian doctrine. His most famous work is Le Pauvre sous l'escalier (21), which deals with Saint Alexius.
