reg

Japanese: reg
reg

...The ground covered with gravel is the result of deflation blowing away sand and dust, leaving behind gravel and boulders, and is called desert pavement, or Gibber Plain in Australia. Desert pavement, where small gravel is piled on top of the soil, is called reg in the western Sahara and serir in the eastern Sahara. For this reason, the words reg and hamada are often used as synonyms for gravel desert.

From the Sahara Desert

...The lack of a high mountain range on the west side of the continent and its connection with the Taklamakan high pressure system on the east are said to have created an unprecedentedly huge desert belt stretching from the Arabian Peninsula to the Thar Desert. In the central part, including Reggane, In Salah (Ain Salah), and Aswan, there is almost no rainfall throughout the year and there is a reddish-brown, extremely arid area with no vegetation. This extremely arid area does not exist in the Australian desert, and only a small area exists in other deserts.
