Shortening - foreshortening

A type of perspective used primarily with the human body, rather than with architecture or landscapes. It depicts a standing or lying human body seen from the head or feet, with an extremely foreshortened form; Mantegna's Dead Christ (Brera Pinacoteca, Milan) is a good example. 遠近法の一種。建築や風景などに適用されたそれでなく，主として人体に用いられた場合をさす。立ち，あるいは横たわっている人体を頭から，あるいは足元から見てその極端に短縮された形を描くもので，マンテーニャの『死せるキリスト』 (ミラノ，ブレラ絵画館) はその好例。
