Cinnamic acid (Cinnamic acid)

Japanese: ケイ皮酸(桂皮酸) - けいひさん（英語表記）cinnamic acid

A representative aromatic unsaturated carboxylic acid, it was first discovered in cinnamon oil extracted from the bark of the cinnamomum tree, hence the name (the Latin word cinnamon means cinnamom). It is also called β-phenylacrylic acid. Because it contains a double bond in the molecule, it exists as cis and trans isomers, but it exists naturally in the stable trans form, and the term cinnamic acid usually refers to the trans form. The cis form is called allocinnamic acid, but it is unstable and easily changes to the trans form. (Chemical formula) In addition to cinnamon oil, it exists as a free or ester form in balsam of Tolu, balsam of Peru, benzoin, sour balm, and maple resin.

芳香族不飽和カルボン酸の代表で，最初ニッケイの樹皮よりとれるケイ皮油から見いだされたためにこの名がある(ラテン語cinnamonはニッケイの意)。β‐フェニルアクリル酸ともいう。分子内に二重結合を含むため，シス，トランスの異性体が存在するが，天然には安定なトランス型で存在し，単にケイ皮酸といえばふつうトランス型をさす。シス型はアロケイ皮酸と呼ばれるが，不安定でトランス型に変わりやすい。(化学式)ケイ皮油以外にもトルーバルサム，ペルーバルサム，安息香，蘇合香油やタイワンカエデの樹脂中に遊離またはエステルとして存在する。
