Computer control

Control refers to manipulating input so that the object behaves in a desired way, and the object in question is called the controlled object. Control without human intervention is called automatic control, a device that performs automatic control is called a control device, and the whole consisting of the controlled object and the control device is called a control system. When a control device includes a digital computer and uses its capabilities for acquiring, storing, searching, converting, and processing information for control, it is called computer control. Compared to the proportional, integral, and differential calculations used in old pneumatic or electrical analog instruments, the range of information processing that can be realized within a control system can be greatly expanded. 対象の挙動が望ましいものとなるように，その入力を操作することを制御といい，その対象を制御対象という。人間の介在しない制御を自動制御，自動制御を行う装置を制御装置，制御対象と制御装置からなる全体を制御系と呼ぶ。制御装置がディジタルコンピューターを含み，それがもつ情報の獲得，蓄積，検索，変換，処理の能力を制御に利用するものを計算(機)制御という。かつての空気圧または電気式のアナログ計器における比例，積分，微分という演算に比べて，制御系の中に実現できる情報処理の範囲を大幅に拡大することができる。
