...The representative species known from Japan are as follows: the German-winged long-horned caddisfly, a large species whose larvae are often called green caterpillars and used as fishing bait; the small Tanigawa caddisfly, whose larvae live in rapids; the Nakaharashima caddisfly and Echigoshima caddisfly, which are among the caddisfly species that are widely distributed around the world; the Oonagare caddisfly, which is considered one of the most primitive of the existing caddisfly species; and the smallest, the Usugurohime, with a body length of just 0.2 to 0.3 mm. Caddisflies: the relatively large Usubaki Caddisfly and Eguri Caddisfly, whose larvae live in still water; Ningyo Caddisfly, whose larvae build tube nests that look like dolls; Murasaki Caddisfly, the largest of Japan's caddisflies (20-25mm in body length) with large, beautiful purple wing markings; and Yotsume Caddisfly, which has large yellow or white markings on its front and back wings that look like eyes at first glance.
