Keikokushu - Collection of Proverbs

Japanese:
Keikokushu - Collection of Proverbs

A collection of Chinese poetry and prose from the early Heian period. It was compiled and compiled in 827 (Tencho 4) by Shigeno Sadanushi, Yoshimine Yasuyo, Sugawara Kiyokimi, and others. The title comes from the "Dielun" by Emperor Wen of Wei, which says, "(The writings) are the great work of governing the country and are immortal." It originally had 20 volumes, but only six remain: volume 1 "Fu," volumes 10, 11, 13, and 14 (all poems), and volume 20 "Saku (questions for the civil service examination)." The collection includes poets dating back to 707 (Keiun 4), 178 authors, 17 fu, 917 poems, 51 prefaces, and 38 taisaku (answers for the civil service examination), making it a much larger collection than the other imperial anthologies, the Ryōunshū and Bunka Shūreishū. Many poets, including Emperor Saga, Shigeno Sadatsugu, Sugawara Kiyotaka, and Ono Minemori, are included in the collection, but it is noteworthy that there are eight poems by Kukai, who was not of court aristocratic origin.
