Apollonia (English spelling)

An ancient city in western Albania. Founded in the 7th century BC as an ancient Greek colony. Known as a city of learning in ancient Roman times, Octavian, who later became the first Roman emperor, studied military science there. Today, ruins of a theater, palace, meeting hall, roads, and more remain.
The ancient Greek name of the town of Sozopol in eastern Bulgaria.
The remains of an ancient Greek city in the Cyrenaica region in northeastern Libya. It is located in the current coastal town of Susa. In the 7th century BC, settlers from Cyrene built a port. It prospered through the export of local products. Remains of the Ptolemaic period city walls, Roman baths, and a church from the Byzantine period can be seen.
