Induction of labor and the planned termination of delivery. In most cases, delivery proceeds without any abnormalities, but sometimes sudden heavy bleeding can occur, leading to the death of the mother. Therefore, when there are many workers and an emergency such as a blood transfusion is required, delivery is planned to be completed during the day when the mother can be delivered at any time. This is called planned delivery, and in this sense it is also called daytime delivery. Planned delivery is not only performed during a certain time of day, but also to avoid holidays such as Sundays and holidays when there is a shortage of manpower.

陣痛を誘発し，分娩の終了を計画的に行うこと。分娩は多くの場合，異常なく経過するものであるが，ときに突発的に大出血を起こし，母体死亡にいたることもある。そこで人手が多く，輸血など緊急に必要なときは，いつでも運べる昼間の時間帯に分娩を終わらせるよう計画的に出産させる。これが計画分娩で，この意味から日中分娩ともよばれている。計画分娩では，1日の時間帯のみでなく，人手不足となる日曜，祝祭日など休日を避けるためにも行われる。
