[Meaning of management and administration] The word "management" is used today in relation to the management of various organizations, including companies, government, education, religion, and unions, but it is not clear when it became established in the Japanese language. The 1940 edition of the "Japanese Language Dictionary" defines it as (1) laying out a territory and laying the foundations, and (2) carrying out things with ingenuity. Early examples of the use of (1) and (2) can be found in the "Book of Songs" from the Spring and Autumn period in China, and in Japan, an example of the use of (2) can be found in the "Taiheiki" from the Muromachi period.
