1186‐1241 The second emperor of the Mongol Empire. Reigned 1229-41. His posthumous name was Taizong. He was also known as Ogedei Khan. He was the founder of the Ogedei Khanate. He was the third son of Genghis Khan. He aimed to complete the unresolved conquests of his predecessor, completely destroying the Khwarezmian state and pacifying Iran, and in 1234 he personally invaded and destroyed the Jin dynasty. In domestic affairs, he dug wells on the Mongolian plateau to expand pastureland, imposed livestock taxes, and conducted household surveys in agricultural areas to establish new tax laws, thereby ensuring tax revenues.
