A programming language designed and developed for educational purposes by Niklaus Wildt at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich around 1970. Based on ALGOL60 (→Algol), it features control structures suitable for structured programming and provides a wide range of data structures to define the various data structures required for programming. It is primarily used for research and education. It is named after Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician, scientist, and thinker who invented the world's first mechanical adding machine.
