Pascal
A programming language designed and developed for educational purposes by Niklaus Wildt at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich around 1970. Based on ALGOL60 (→Algol), it features control structures suitable for structured programming and provides a wide range of data structures to define the various data structures required for programming. It is primarily used for research and education. It is named after Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician, scientist, and thinker who invented the world's first mechanical adding machine.

1970年頃にチューリヒのスイス連邦工科大学のニクラウス・ビルトが教育用に設計開発したプログラム言語。ALGOL60(→アルゴル)を基本とし,構造化プログラミングに適した制御構造を導入,さらにプログラミングに必要なさまざまなデータ構造を定義できるよう,豊富なデータ構造を提供しているのが特徴。主として研究,教育用に使われている。世界最初の機械式加算器を発明したフランスの数学者,科学者,思想家のブレーズ・パスカルから名をとっている。
