Kuwabara House

This manor was part of the Todaiji Temple estate in Sakai County, Echizen Province. It corresponds to the area including Kuwabara and Horie Juraku in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture today. Todaiji Temple was established in 755 (Tenpyo Shoho 7) when it purchased 96 cho, 2 tan, 116 bu of land in Horie-go, Sakai County, from Otomo no Sukunemaro, a reclaimed land of Otomo no Sukunemaro. At the time, Todaiji Temple was under a quasi-national organization called the Todaiji Construction Office, so the manor was also managed through a local administrative organization. The income and expenditure report of the villa from that year to 757 (Tenpyo Hoji 1) remains, and the actual management was carried out by Echizen no Kunishi Shisho Ando no Sukune Otari, who was an official of the former Todaiji Temple Office, and Asuwa County Tairyo Ikue no Azumahito. The establishment of this villa was a manifestation of the regional development policy with the help of Todaiji Temple. It is believed that the real substance of the villa was lost after 758.

越前国坂井郡にあった東大寺領の荘。現在の福井県あわら市桑原・堀江十楽(ほりえじゅうらく)を含む地域に比定される。東大寺が755年（天平勝宝7）、大伴宿禰麻呂(おおとものすくねまろ)からその開墾地坂井郡堀江郷の地96町2段116歩を買得(ばいとく)して成立した。当時東大寺は造東大寺司(ぞうとうだいじし)という準国家機関の下にあったので、この荘の経営も、地方行政機構を通して行われた。同年から757年（天平宝字1）までの当荘経営の収支報告が残され、実際の経営を担当したのは前造東大寺司の官人(かんじん)であった越前国史生(ししょう)安都宿禰雄足(あとのすくねおたり)と足羽郡(あすわぐん)大領(たいりょう)生江東人(いくえのあずまひと)らであった。この荘の成立は、東大寺の力を借りた地域振興政策の現れである。758年以後はその実体は失われたとみられる。
