The chemical formula is CCl 3 NO 2 . Also known as chloropicrin. Colorless liquid. Melting point -64°C, boiling point 112°C. Slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in organic solvents. Irritates the skin and mucous membranes, has a strong lachrymatory effect, and causes respiratory distress. Chloropicrin fumigant is used as a soil disinfectant. It has also been used as a poison gas.
