Chloropicrin

Japanese: クロルピクリン

The chemical formula is CCl ₃ NO ₂ . Also known as chloropicrin. Colorless liquid. Melting point -64°C, boiling point 112°C. Slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in organic solvents. Irritates the skin and mucous membranes, has a strong lachrymatory effect, and causes respiratory distress. Chloropicrin fumigant is used as a soil disinfectant. It has also been used as a poison gas. It is made by reacting chlorine with picric acid, etc. It is not registered for use as a fumigant for harvested crops in warehouses.

化学式はCCl₃NO₂。クロロピクリンとも。無色の液体。融点−64℃，沸点112℃。水に微溶，有機溶媒に易溶。皮膚，粘膜を刺激し，強い催涙作用があり，呼吸困難をきたす。クロルピクリン薫蒸剤は土壌殺菌剤として使用。毒ガスに使用されたこともある。ピクリン酸などに塩素を作用させてつくる。倉庫内の収穫物の薫蒸剤としての使用は登録からはずされている。
