…Like other ethnic groups along the Volga River, the Chuvash people resisted many times in the 16th to 19th centuries in the form of peasant revolts (Razin's Revolt, Pugachev's Revolt), and in Imperial Russia they were mainly organized into peasant classes. In the second half of the 19th century, the Chuvash Normal School in Simbirsk became the center of education and enlightenment for the Chuvash people, and Lenin's father, IN Ulyanov, worked hard to educate the Chuvash people as a school inspector in Simbirsk province. Chuvash people had started to leave their homes to work in the countryside since the second half of the 19th century, but after the revolution, especially under Stalin's regime, industry expanded, mainly in Cheboksary, and the electrical, mechanical, and chemical industries developed. Migration to cities progressed rapidly, and the Chuvash people came to make up the majority of the population in cities. …
