A perennial plant of the Chenopodiaceae family, native to tropical America. It has been naturalized in Japan and has become a weed around urban areas. The stems are 1-1.5m tall and have a unique odor. The whole plant contains henopodium oil, an anthelmintic, which is effective against intestinal parasites such as duodenal worms, roundworms, and whipworms.
