Will Grohmann

1887‐1968
German art historian and critic. In 1907 he organized an exhibition in Dresden of the then-recently formed Expressionist group Brücke (the Bridge). Since then he has published numerous excellent studies and critiques based on his friendships with artists, and made a great contribution to raising the profile of contemporary German art internationally. Among his works he is best known for his lengthy monographs on Klee and Kandinsky (1954 and 1958 respectively), both of whom were friends, as well as Modern Art (1966), which surveyed postwar European art.

ドイツの美術史家，批評家。1907年にドレスデンで，当時結成されてまもない表現主義グループ〈ブリュッケ(橋)〉の展覧会を組織したのをはじめ，以後作家との交友に基づく数多くのすぐれた研究や評論を発表し，現代ドイツ美術の声価を国際的に高めるうえでも大きな功績を残した。著作としては，友人でもあったクレーとカンディンスキーの大部のモノグラフ(それぞれ1954,1958)がよく知られ，その他戦後ヨーロッパ美術を総観した《現代の美術》(1966)などもある。
