A tale of a conversation. Written by Jokanbo Koa. Published in 1752 (2nd year of the Horeki era). Five volumes. Although it is called a conversation, it is not a Buddhist discussion, but a satire of the customs of Edo at the time, with a moralistic intent. Whereas previous novels had mainly been about the Kansai region, this was the first to be about Edo and to use Edo dialect, so it caused a great sensation as the first Edo novel and became the origin of the so-called tale of a conversation. It criticizes Kabuki, the behavior of townspeople, the extravagance of funerals, public exhibitions, the Kyoai-gumi, the popularity of false theories, Bungo-bushi, and so on.

談義本。静観房好阿（じようかんぼうこうあ）作。1752年(宝暦2)刊。5巻。談義とあるが仏教的な談義ではなく，当時の江戸の風俗を叙しつつ教訓的な意図でこれを風刺したものである。いままでの小説が主として関西を題材にしたのに対し，これは初めて江戸を題材にし江戸言葉を採り入れたので，最初の江戸小説として多大の反響を呼び，いわゆる談義本の始祖となる。歌舞伎，町人の身持，葬式のぜいたく，開帳，きおい組，虚説の流行，豊後節などを批判している。
