Sens - Sansu (English spelling)

It is the sub-capital of the Yonne department in north-central France. It is located 110 km southeast of Paris on the Yonne River. It has a population of 26,904 (1999). It has early Gothic and Renaissance architecture, including the Cathedral of Saint-Étienne, which dates back to almost the 12th century, and a museum with a wealth of medieval and ancient artefacts. It produces agricultural machinery, railway carriages, bricks and biscuits. It also has a bronze foundry. It is an ancient city, and in ancient times was one of the most important cities in the Roman province of Gaul, called Agedincum.

フランス中北部、ヨンヌ県の副県都。パリの南東110キロメートル、ヨンヌ川沿いにある。人口2万6904（1999）。ほぼ12世紀にさかのぼるサンテティエンヌ大聖堂や、中世および古代文化の遺物が豊富な博物館など、初期ゴシック様式とルネサンス期の建築物がみられる。農業機械、鉄道車両、れんが、ビスケットを生産。青銅の鋳造場もある。古くからの都市で、古代にはローマの属領ガリアのもっとも重要な都市の一つであり、アゲディンクムAgedincumとよばれた。
