Smoky cockroach (English name) Periplaneta fuliginosa

Japanese: クロゴキブリ（英語表記）Periplaneta fuliginosa

Order Blattella, Family Blattidae. Body length 25-30mm. Overall blackish brown and shiny. Antennae longer than the body. Wings large, capable of flight. Females lay many eggs in handbag-shaped egg cases. Found from the Kanto region south to Amami Oshima, as well as in Taiwan and China. A typical nuisance pest in homes. Its native habitat is thought to be southern China. The closely related Japanese cockroach P. japonica resembles this species but is slightly smaller and thinner, with long forewings in males that extend beyond the tip of the abdomen, but short in females, only extending slightly beyond the center of the abdomen. Found in Honshu, it lives outdoors. (→ Cockroaches )
