Kazuma Oda

Printmaker. Born in Tokyo. Learned Western painting from Kawamura Kiyoo and lithography from his brother Azuma Tou. Exhibited at the Tomoe-kai and Bunten exhibitions. In 1909 (Meiji 42), he joined the group of "Hosun" magazine and began to establish creative printmaking using lithography. During the Taisho era, he exhibited at the Nikaten exhibition and then the Teiten exhibition, and in 1918 (Taisho 7), he founded the Japan Creative Print Association with Yamamoto Kanae and others. During the Taisho era, he produced 20 pieces each of "Tokyo Landscapes" and "Osaka Landscapes," and in the Showa era, he produced noteworthy works in lithograph series of city landscapes and customs, including the two art books "Ginza" and "Shinjuku." He exhibited every year at the Nitten exhibition as an unreviewed Bunten exhibition, and after World War II, he was commissioned to exhibit at the Nitten exhibition. He headed the Oda Lithography Research Institute.

版画家。東京に生まれる。洋画を川村清雄、石版を兄の東禹(とうう)に学ぶ。トモエ会、文展に出品。1909年(明治42)『方寸』誌の同人に加わり、石版画による創作版画の確立に向かう。大正時代には二科展、ついで帝展に出品し、18年(大正7)山本鼎(かなえ)らと日本創作版画協会を設立する。大正期に『東京風景』『大阪風景』各20点、昭和期に入って『銀座』『新宿』両画集など、都会の風景や風俗の石版画シリーズに注目すべき仕事を示した。文展無鑑査として、第二次世界大戦後は日展出品依嘱者として毎年出品。織田石版術研究所主宰。
