Akagi Shrine
Located in Miyosawa, Miyagi Village, Gunma Prefecture (present-day Maebashi City). Former prefectural shrine. The main deity is Akagi-no-mikoto. A famous shrine listed in the Engishiki. As the center of worship of Mount Akagi, it formed a worship area throughout the Kanto region. Later, worship of the swamp gods of Lake Ono and Lake Kononuma on Mount Akagi was added, and in the Shinto Collection, Lake Ono (Akagi Daimyojin), Lake Kono (Takanobe Daimyojin) and Jizo-dake (Kakuman Daibosatsu) are listed as the three Akagi shrines, and the idea of ​​making Akagi Shrine in Lake Ono the main shrine arose.

群馬県宮城(みやぎ)村(現・前橋市)三夜沢(みよさわ)に鎮座。旧県社。主祭神は赤城神。延喜式内の名神大社。赤城山信仰の中心として関東一帯に信仰圏を形成。のち赤城山上の大沼(おの)・小沼(この)の沼神信仰が加わり,《神道集》では大沼(赤城大明神)・小沼(高野辺(たかのべ)大明神)と地蔵岳(覚満(かくまん)大菩薩)を赤城三所明神としており,大沼の赤城神社を本宮とする考えが起きた。
