Pristigenys niphonia (English name)

Japanese: クルマダイ(車鯛) - クルマダイ（英語表記）Pristigenys niphonia

A marine fish of the Perciformes family (illustration). It is called kagekiyo on the Boso Peninsula and Enoshima, kanehira in Kochi Prefecture, kintoki or mannendai in Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, and hiredai in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is widely distributed from southern Japan to the Philippines, the East Indies, and the east coast of Africa. It grows to nearly 30 cm in total length. Its body is ovoid and strongly laterally compressed. Its body height is high. Its scales are coarse comb scales. Its pelvic fins are large, and their ends reach the base of the anal fins. It has five broad red horizontal bands on its sides.

スズキ目キントキダイ科の海産魚（イラスト）。房総半島，江の島でカゲキヨ，高知県でカネヒラ，和歌山県田辺でキントキまたはマンネンダイ，鹿児島県でヒレダイと呼ぶ。南日本からフィリピン，東インド諸島，アフリカ東岸に広く分布している。全長30cm近くになる。体は卵形で，強く側扁している。体高は高い。うろこは粗雑な櫛鱗（しつりん）。腹びれは大きく，その末端はしりびれの基部に達する。体側には5本の幅広い赤色横帯がある。
