1792‐1878 British caricaturist and illustrator. Born in London, he took over his father Isaac's profession and quickly established himself as a social and political cartoonist. Following in the footsteps of Rowlandson and Gillray, he produced witty, sharp satires of the deterioration of British society, focusing on the royal family and the private life of the Prince Regent (later George IV). In the 1820s, he gained fame by turning to illustrations for works by Dickens and the Brothers Grimm. In his later years, he supported the temperance movement and produced the series "Wine Bottles," which took the evils of alcohol as its subject.
