1901‐31 Chinese novelist. Born in Lu'an, Anhui Province. His real name was Jiang Guangchi, or Jiang Xiaseng. After the May Fourth Movement, he studied in Moscow (1921-24). After returning to China, he published a collection of poems called "New Dreams" and essays in which he praised the October Revolution and shocked the young generation by preaching about the class nature of literature. In 1928, he formed the Taiyang Press with Qian Xingcun (A Ying) and others, and launched a revolutionary literature movement. His novels include "Young Vagabond," but "Winds in the Countryside," his first posthumous book, is notable for depicting class struggle in rural areas and being one of the first to incorporate Jing Gangshan into his novels.
