姓は滋野氏とも，源氏ともいう。信濃海野氏の一族で，真田氏らと同族。刑部大輔信真が駿河国安部郡安部谷に住んで以来安部氏を称した。室町時代以来今川氏に仕えたが，のち徳川氏に従い，三河半原に封じられ，明治にいたって子爵。
