In the broad sense, it refers to a continuous strip of green space created around large cities for the purposes of environmental conservation in urban areas, disaster prevention such as earthquakes and fires, recreation, landscaping, etc. In the narrow sense, it refers to a strip of planted land created in parks or on the side of roads for the purposes of decoration, landscaping, separation, etc. Often it is a combination of lawns, flower beds, and trees.
