840-916 One of the founders of ancient Slavic literature. A student of the brothers Cyril and Methodius, who evangelized the Slavs of Moravia. After the death of Methodius in 885, he was driven out of Moravia and received by Tsar Boris of Bulgaria. He opened a school in Kutmichevita, Macedonia, that translated church documents into Slavic.
