A former town in Katori County, northeastern Chiba Prefecture. Located on the Shimousa Plateau, agriculture is the main industry. Peanuts and sweet potatoes are the main crops produced. Pig farming is also carried out. An agricultural and industrial complex has been developed to attract businesses. In March 2006, the town merged with Sawara City, Omigawa Town in Katori County, and Yamada Town to become Katori City. Area: 29.05 km2 . Population: 5,247 (2003). 千葉県北東部,香取郡の旧町。下総(しもうさ)台地上に位置し,農業を基幹産業とする。ラッカセイ,サツマイモを主産。養豚なども行われる。農工団地が造成され,企業誘致をすすめている。2006年3月,佐原市,香取郡小見川町,山田町と合併し市制,香取市となる。29.05km2。5247人(2003)。
