Pictures and letters are drawn on paper using sake and squeezed tangerine juice. When exposed to fire, the moisture is removed from the cellulose in the paper, carbonizing it and revealing the pictures and letters in a dark brown color. There are records that this was played as a drinking game during the Edo period. When an aqueous solution of cobalt chloride is used, the paper loses moisture and turns blue. 紙に酒，ミカンの絞り汁などで絵や文字をかいたもの。そのままでは見えないが，火にあぶると紙のセルロースの水分が奪われ，炭化して，焦茶色に絵や文字が現れる。江戸時代に酒席の遊びとして行われたとの記録がある。塩化コバルトの水溶液を使うと水分を失って青色に出る。
