Saburo Oba

Japanese: 大庭三郎 - おおばさぶろう

1912-1998 Stage lighting designer from the Showa to Heisei eras.
Born on January 5, 1912. Established the Oba Lighting Laboratory in 1940, and was in charge of stage lighting at the Kabukiza and Shinbashi Enbujo Theater. After the war, he trained on Broadway in New York, and after returning to Japan, established an experimental studio. His representative works include "Fiddler on the Roof" and "My Fair Lady." Served as president of the Japan Lighting Designers Association. Died on January 15, 1998. Age 86. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Yasuda Gakuen Technical College.

明治45年1月5日生まれ。昭和15年大庭照明研究所を設立し,歌舞伎座,新橋演舞場などで舞台照明を担当。戦後ニューヨークのブロードウェーで研修し,帰国後,実験スタジオを創設する。代表作に「屋根の上のヴァイオリン弾き」「マイ・フェア・レディ」など。日本照明家協会会長をつとめた。平成10年1月15日死去。86歳。東京出身。安田学園工専卒。
