The Yongjia School

A school of thought that arose in Yongjia, Zhejiang Province, China, from the end of the Northern Song Dynasty to the Southern Song Dynasty. The nine teachers of the early Yongjia school were Zhang Yequ, Xu Jingheng, who studied under Cheng Yi, Zhou Xingji, Liu Anjie, Liu Anshang, Dai Shu, Zhao Xiao, Zhang Hui, Shen Binlao, and Jiang Yuanzhong. The school was later perfected by Zheng Jingwang, Xue Jixuan, Ye Shi, and Chen Fuliang.

This school opposed the theory of Zhu Xi (Zhu Xi) and Lu Xiangshan, and believed that the Way exists in things themselves, and that an abstract Way cannot exist apart from concrete, objective things. Therefore, rather than engaging in empty and complicated discussions that are detached from reality, they learned from the spirit of Zhou Li and focused on how to govern the country and ensure peace for the people. Because their goal was to pursue concrete achievements in politics, they are also known as the Utilitarian School or the Practical School.

中国、北宋(ほくそう)末から南宋にかけて、浙江(せっこう)省永嘉におこった学派。張横渠(ちょうおうきょ)、程頤(ていい)に私淑した許景衡(きょけいこう)、周行己(しゅうこうき)、劉安節(りゅうあんせつ)、劉安上(りゅうあんじょう)、戴述(たいじゅつ)、趙霄(ちょうしょう)、張輝(ちょうき)、沈彬老(しんひんろう)、蒋元中(しょうげんちゅう)が初期永嘉学派の九先生とよばれる。のち、鄭景望(ていけいぼう)、薛季宣(せつきせん)を経て、葉適(しょうてき)、陳傅良(ちんふりょう)に至って完成した。

　この学派は、朱熹(しゅき)（朱子(しゅし)）や陸象山(りくしょうざん)の理学に反対して、道は事物そのもののなかに存在し、具体的な客観事物を離れて、抽象的な道の存在はありえないとする。したがって現実を離れた空虚で煩瑣(はんさ)な議論よりも、周礼(しゅらい)の精神に学びつつ、治国安民をいかにして実現していくかに主力を注いだ。政治上における具体的な功績の追求に目的のあるところから、功利学派、事功学派ともよばれる。
