Born: January 4, 1772 in Paris [Died] April 10, 1825. Indre-et-Loire, Béres. French satirist and Greek scholar. He served as a soldier during the revolution and imperial era, but retired to his estate near Tours during the Restoration, where he published witty political pamphlets against the reactionary politics of the Bourbon dynasty, playing the role of Voltaire's successor. On the other hand, his devotion to Greek literature led him to follow in the footsteps of A. Chénier, and his style is pure, elegant, and refined, so he can be called the last French classicist writer. In addition to Pamphlet des Pamphlets (1824), he also produced excellent translations of Greek literature.
