Kuri clan

Japanese:
Kuri clan
A local feudal lord in Iwami in the Middle Ages. His original family name was Kiyohara, and from the end of the Heian period onwards he ruled over Kuri-go in Nima County, Iwami Province, and called himself the Kuri clan. The first historical document showing the relationship between the Kiyohara clan and Kuri-go was the Iwami Kokushicho-no-sho in 1063 (Kohei 6), which appointed Kiyohara Yoriyuki as Kuri-goji, and thereafter the Kiyohara clan ruled over Kuri-go, as well as Niman, Amakawachi, and Sama districts. With the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, the Kiyohara (Kuri) clan joined the ranks of the Gokenin and was likely once again appointed as land steward of four districts, including Kuri. In the Middle Ages, the Kuri clan produced one district steward for the Sama and Niman clans, as well as small land stewards (ichibun land stewards) for Akanami, Ichihara, Onimura, and other districts in the main territory of Kuri-go. These illegitimate children participated in the Nanboku-cho civil war with their own unique identity as the head of Kuri.
