Prince - Shinnou

Japanese: 親王 - しんのう
Prince - Shinnou
〘 noun 〙 (a compound word of "shin'ou") [1] One of the ranks of male members of the imperial family. ① Under the ritsuryo system, all brothers and sons of the emperor were called sasaga (females were called imperial princesses), and in the third year of Tenpyo -Hoji ( 759 ) during the reign of Emperor Junnin, the system of proclamations of princes began, and this rank was limited to those granted by imperial decree. Also, from the Middle Ages onwards, hereditary families of princes arose. ※Ryo-Yoshie (718) succession: "The emperor's brothers and princes. All were to become two princes ( the same goes for the sons of female emperors), and all were to become two kings." ※Heike (before the 13th century): "When the first prince of the current emperor was two years old, he was suddenly proclaimed prince." ② In modern times, this is the title for male members of the imperial family, from princes to the great-great-grandson of the emperor (the emperor's great-great-grandson). Since 1947 , it has been the title given to legitimate princes and male descendants of the legitimate male lineage. [Onkun Shinbun Jihin (1876)] *Article 31 of the Imperial Household Law (1889), "From princes to the great-great-grandson of the emperor, males are called princes and females are called princesses." ③ In China, up until the Sui dynasty, it referred to the emperor's uncles, brothers, and children, and in the Tang dynasty, it referred to princes. In the Qing dynasty, it referred to the highest title in the imperial family. [Suishu - Hundred Officials Records, Part 2] [2] Abbreviation of "shinnoukazura (prince's wig)." [Gijang Kunming Tui (1803)]
