1900‐75 A French-Canadian poet. He traveled widely around the world, mainly in France, during the interwar period, and made a name for himself as a traveler and adventurer, writing works such as Louis Jolliet: Born in Quebec (1933) and The Adventures of Marco Polo (1942). As a poet, he had a strong influence on French-Canadian poets of the 1950s and 1960s with works such as Islands of the Night (1944). Existentialist thought casts a heavy shadow over his works, and the poet's gaze on the absurdity of human existence strikes a strong chord.
